Photographs made by John Vachon for the Farm Security Administration from the survey of America, 1939-1942. The collection includes images of rural schools and children in Wisconsin, the Dakotas, and Montana. Also included are images of loading grain from grain elevators onto ships in Superior, Wis.; residential neighborhoods in Milwaukee; a cherry canning plant; Greendale, Wis.; and farm scenes.

The Farm Security Administration (FSA) was established within the United States Department of Agriculture to implement the provisions of the Bankhead-Jones Tenant Act of 1937.
